New Historic Environment Record Launched
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Heritage Service is pleased to announce the launch of the new online Historic Environment Record (HER).
This upgrade and redevelopment project has been completed by Exegesis/ Idox and the Archaeology Service to improve and enhance public access to the online HER.
The records within the HER include detailed descriptions of monuments, buildings, records of fieldwork and research and legal protections through designation. There are also linked items such as photographs and reports.
The records held in the HER database represent sites that date from the Mesolithic through to the Cold War.
The primary purpose of the HER is to provide advice through the planning framework; however online public accessibility also helps to deliver wider Scottish Government strategic aims for individuals & communities, such as placemaking and wellbeing and supports the principles of ‘Our Past, Our Future: The Strategy for Scotland’s Historic Environment’.
The HER database is continually added to, and members of the public can contact the Archaeology Service to provide updated information or photographic images about individual sites or inform us about newly discovered sites not previously recorded.
The Archaeology Service HER can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org
